Overpressure Plug Value Packs — Free Shipping on All Packs
Orders placed before 4 PM Eastern ship same day from Virginia.
Replacing your overpressure plug is the single most important routine maintenance you can do for your All American pressure canner. This small rubber plug is your last line of defense — rated to automatically release pressure at approximately 23 PSI if the vent pipe becomes blocked, if there's overheating, or if there's too much water loss.
"We recommend that you replace the overpressure plug every 12 months, or before if it becomes hard, cracked or deformed. Never reuse a blown overpressure plug."
Our plugs are genuine parts direct from the Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry. Having a spare on hand means you're always prepared for your next canning session. How to check your plug: From the underside of the lid, the plug should be soft, flexible, and free of cracks. If it feels rigid or shows surface cracking, replace it before your next session.

The Vent Pipe Cleaning Rod — Simple, Essential Safety
Check your pressure canner vent pipe regularly to ensure it is clear and free of buildup or obstructions. Before every use, hold the lid up to light and look through the vent pipe. If you can't see light through it, it's blocked. A clogged vent pipe prevents the regulator weight from maintaining proper pressure and forces the overpressure plug to do the heavy lifting — that's not how it's designed to work.
This simple cleaning rod (Part No. 75) is designed specifically for clearing dangerous deposits from the vent pipe. Straightforward, remarkably effective, and ships free.
Good Spare Parts to Have on Hand
These are the accessories and spare parts we recommend keeping available so your canning season is never stopped short.
All American Pressure Canner 75 Vent Pipe Cleaning Rod
Check the vent pipe before every use. This effective cleaning rod clears dangerous deposits that can prevent proper pressure maintenance. Check often — don't wait until something goes wrong. Fits all models.

All American Pressure Canner 111 Canning Rack (9.5")
For Model 910 canners only. Always use a rack — jars should never touch the bottom of the canner directly. Place rim-side down. Replace if bent or warped.
All American Pressure Canner 151 Canning Rack (11.5")
Fits Models 915, 921, 925, and 930. Essential — the rack positions jars correctly, allows heat to circulate, and protects your canner bottom. Replace if bent or warped. The USDA recommends a flat rack on the bottom layer.
Flat Canning Rack (12½") — Model 941
The 12½" flat perforated aluminum rack drops right into the 941 — a solid flat-rack option alongside the OEM wire rack (No. 2072). The USDA recommends flat racks for pressure canning.
All American Pressure Canner 72 Geared Steam Gauge
Easy-to-read dial gauge, fits all models. Useful for knowing when pressure has dropped to zero and the lid can be safely opened — even if the regulator weight is your primary pressure indicator. Rated accuracy ±2 PSI new. Replace if damaged or if testing shows significant drift.
All American Pressure Canner 68 Pressure Regulator Weight
A spare regulator weight is worth having if multiple people use your canner, or if you process large batches. The weight is your pressure standard — 1 to 4 jiggles per minute means you're at correct pressure. Fits models: 910, 915, 921, 925, 930 & 941.
Instruction & Recipe Book No. 74
The only official guide for All American pressure canners. Covers the metal-to-metal seal, vent pipe care, overpressure plug replacement, altitude adjustments, and tested recipes. Order a physical copy — mark it up and keep it in the kitchen. Ships same day on orders placed before 4 PM Eastern.
Your All American Maintenance Schedule
A few minutes of routine care is all that stands between you and decades more of safe pressure canning.
| When | Task | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Before Each Use | Check vent pipe clarity (hold lid up to light) | A blocked vent pipe prevents proper pressure and forces the overpressure plug to work overtime. |
| Before Each Use | Check overpressure plug — soft and pliable? | Hard, cracked, or deformed plugs must be replaced before use. Never operate with a questionable plug. |
| Before Each Use | Check metal-to-metal seal lubrication | Apply a thin film of petroleum jelly to the inside bevel every 3–4 uses. A dry seal can leak and is very difficult to remove. |
| Monthly (During Season) | Clean the overpressure plug opening with a small brush and hot soapy water | Food or grease buildup in the plug opening can prevent proper seating and cause leaks below 5 PSI. |
| Monthly (During Season) | Wipe metal-to-metal seal with clean cloth to remove hardened lubricant buildup | 0000 grade steel wool can be used carefully — avoid hard scrubbing which can damage the seal. |
| Annually | Replace the overpressure plug (Part No. 2040) | Rubber degrades over time. Replace regardless of appearance — the cost is minimal, the safety benefit is significant. |
| After Each Use / Storage | Store completely dry with lid off or upside down | Storing with moisture inside causes pitting. Always store in a dry area with the cover separate from the bottom. |
| As Needed | Test steam gauge accuracy (via county extension agent) | Gauges drift ±1–2 PSI new, and can reach 5–10 PSI off over time. With a weight-gauge canner, trust the weight — but knowing your gauge reading helps. |
